Sparaga Honored by Maine Dental Association

Dr. James Sparaga

Dr. James Sparaga, a dentist who practices in Machias, has been recognized by the Maine Dental Association with inclusion on its Honor Wall.

The Honor Wall recognizes “those who have given extraordinary service to the Maine Dental Association” and is displayed at the organization’s headquarters in Manchester. Sparaga, along with Dr. James Helmkamp, were lauded as the Honor Wall’s newest members at the Maine Dental Association’s annual convention on June 9 at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks in South Portland.

Sparaga has been the chair of the MDA Peer Review Committee for several decades. Peer review serves the public and profession by providing an alternate means of achieving resolution of disputes.

“(Dr. Sparaga) has worked tirelessly as an advocate on behalf of patients and Maine dentists to find amicable and ethical solutions to disputes,” Dr. Gary Creisher, outgoing MDA Executive Board president, said.

Sparaga has practiced in Washington County since 1976, and is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, and a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, along with the American Academy of Computerized Dentistry.

“The MDA Peer Review Council offers their years of professional experience to our members, helping to resolve differences of opinions with their patients,” Sparaga said. “As committee chairman, it was my privilege to coordinate their efforts, and it was amazing to see the innovative and competent ways our committee members handled the cases. Bravo to each of them.”

Incorporated in 1867, the Maine Dental Association is a professional membership organization of licensed dentists. The MDA works to support members in achieving excellence in dentistry, and to be leaders in oral health in Maine. For more information about the MDA, go to www.medental.org.
