UNE LogoMDA Logo AcronymSign Up To Be A Mentor In The MDA/UNE Program - Deadline is next Wednesday!

We are having another great year of mentor-mentee relationship between 3rd year UNE dental students and Maine dentists to establish a relationship to help welcome students into the profession. The extent of relationship can vary and be decided by the pair, to be anything from coffee each week to zooming once a quarter. In the past, some students have enjoyed shadowing at offices and discussing cases. Some practices have even gained associates from this process!

If you are interested in becoming a mentor in the MDA/UNE ASDA Mentorship Program for the 2022-2023 school year, the deadline to apply is Wednesday, November 9.

Those who have been mentors in the past and those who are new to the mentorship program need to fill out the 2022-2023 application, which you can find HERE. It is a quick process and helps to match mentors and proteges.

Program guidelines include:

  • The program seeks a commitment to a two-way street of communication
  • Contact at least once a month is encouraged. This could be a phone call, text, email, visit to your office, etc.
  • Mentors and protégés will be contacted with a brief quarterly email.
  • The 2022-2023 Mentorship Program cycle will conclude in May of 2022

The first MDA/UNE ASDA mentor meet and greet will be held in December...more details to follow!

The MDA is a proud partner with UNE ASDA on the Mentorship Program and is excited to help connect mentors and proteges this school year.

The MDA and the ADA have been relying upon the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines over the course of the pandemic.  As such, the September 23, 2022 CDC guidelines are the latest guidance in determining the level of source control needed in dental practices, referencing the levels of county transmission as the determining factor. Transmission levels are updated weekly on Thursday evenings at this website:

To that end, in accordance with the latest CDC guidance (, whatever the level of transmission of the county in which a specific practice is located would be the guidance to follow for that practice.
